We are inspired by our community
Our quest to create a solution for the unsustainable norms in the endurance sports nutrition industry, aren’t just based off our own experience. We asked our community about sustainability in endurance sports nutrition. Here’s what you said!
“Endurance sports snacks are expensive, sometimes I don’t have enough on hand.
Not enough snacks”
“Bulk, reusable bags, recyclable or compostable packaging could all be ways to make endurance sports more sustainable.”
“To avoid acidentally littering, I use Brix reusable mini flasks because I don't want to damage our beautiful forests 🙏”
“I frequently use reusable stasher (silicone) bags to carry snacks, but they are bulkier than the disposable packaging, so it only works for shorter activities where I am not carrying as many snacks at once..”
“Large format (bulk) transfer to reusable containers would make sports nutrition much more sustainable and affordable”

What's the difference between trephor and meal shakes?
Unlike food supplements like meal or protein shakes, which are usually taken after an activity to aid recovery, trephor products are meant to be taken during an activity, in order to sustain your energy level during exercise. As your body reacts differently to macronutrients during vs after exercise, trephor products have a very different macronutrient composition to recovery drinks. As trephor products are designed to be consumed during a n activity, the packaging is compact and convenient. We don't know about you, but lugging around a protein shaker on a long run doesn't seem like the most convenient option.

Is the trephor sauce the same as an energy gel?
Even though the function of the trephor sauce can be compared to a gel, it is not the same thing. Whereas conventional sports gels usually resemble slimy space food, the trephor sauce is more reminiscent of a fruit puree, with the texture and taste of real food.
-
Are trephor powders drink mixes?
Although the trephor dry mixes require the addition of water to be turned into snacks, they are just that: snacks. They are not meant to be mixed into your water flask.

I am not a trail runner, can I still use trephor products?
although trephor may be biased in that it’s founders are trail runners, our products will work for any endurance sports athlete! During the design process of our products we carefully considered the user experience experience for other endurance sports like cycling.

I'm not ready to give up single use plastic. Can I still use trephor?
Of course! We understand that single-use plastic packaging definitely has it's perks, however any step towards less plastic waste is amazing, even if it's just a tiny one. So feel free to still use the snacks you're used to and use trephor along with them.

Can't I just use Ziplock bags instead of the trephor packaging?
You can make them work (kind of), but we noticed that, in the long run, they're just not made for the purpose we were using them for. One of the reasons we decided to design a special packaging for the bars, is that Ziplock bags just didn't cut it for us as a re-usable option. They're flimsy, still break after a couple of uses, aren't optimal to handle during activity and just don't look nice. The trephor packaging makes the whole experience of carrying and consuming a homemade snack during an activity so much more comfortable.
